Carrie Goller was destined to be an artist, or so her first-grade teacher declared, and while she didn’t follow that path immediately, it was a prophecy that would eventually ring true. Raised on Bainbridge Island in Washington's Puget Sound, Goller spent earlier years working as a paralegal. It wasn’t until a life-altering health challenge in 2002 that she found herself at a crossroads—one that led her to embrace creativity with an intensity that felt like coming home.

Her art, like her life, is anything but conventional. Goller’s work, particularly her recent series of creature portraits, reveals a deep reverence for the natural world. Through her vibrant depictions of animals, she hopes to capture not just their likeness, but their spirit. Working across oil, encaustic, egg tempera, cold wax and mixed media, her paintings reflect a symbiosis of classical technique and modern experimentation, pushing the boundaries of traditional realism while exploring the abstract interplay of light, form, and movement.

Goller’s creative journey is one of constant learning and transformation. She has been mentored by world-renowned artist Max Hayslette, and her artistic education includes studies under Brad Kunkle, Juliette Aristides, Gabriel Lipper, Jim Lamb, Ned Mueller and others. She attended Northwest College of Art (now Northwest College of Art & Design). Goller has shown her work in prestigious museums and exhibits in Washington, New York City, California, Denver, and Arizona galleries. Her solo exhibitions at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art—featuring her encaustic seascapes and wild creature paintings—have captivated viewers with their raw emotional depth and technical sophistication.

A signature member of Artists for Conservation, Goller’s work is housed in both private and corporate collections across the globe. From her idyllic studio overlooking the Hood Canal, she continues to balance the time-honored techniques of her classical training with a fresh, vibrant approach to contemporary art. Whether painting a delicate bumblebee or the enigmatic gaze of a hummingbird, Goller remains captivated by the ever-evolving relationship between tradition, nature, and innovation—finding beauty in the spaces where all three collide.

As a colorist, I truly appreciate Carrie Goller’s work. She has a wonderful talent for creative combinations that really do engage the eye, says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute and Director of the Eiseman Center for Color Information & Training.
